The company seeks a Retirement Onboarding Specialist to oversee the complete implementation cycle for newly signed enterprise and starter retirement plans on the Gusto 401(k) platform. This position functions as the primary point of contact for plan sponsors and administrators after plan execution, guiding clients through initial setup and ensuring the successful processing of their first contributions. The role suits an organized, proactive professional with strong client-facing implementation experience who can manage a large active portfolio while maintaining a client-first approach. Team members at Gusto are expected to actively engage with artificial intelligence tools relevant to their responsibilities and build fluency over time. Depending on where staff members reside, hybrid work schedules require working from physical offices in Denver, San Francisco, New York City, or Scottsdale approximately two to three days each week or more.
Responsibilities
- Manage a dedicated book of business covering new enterprise and starter 401(k) plans from contract signing through plan activation and first contribution processing.
- Serve as the main point of contact for plan administrators and sponsors via telephone, email, and video calls, including scheduling through Calendly.
- Assist employers through pre-ready task dashboards, offering proactive follow-ups to prevent delays and maintain activation schedules.
- Track and achieve key performance benchmarks such as average response times, customer satisfaction scores, time to ready, and time to activation.
- Collaborate across departments with Legal, Sales, and Operations teams to resolve configuration challenges and align client expectations.
- Relay customer feedback to product management and leadership teams to support platform enhancements.
- Utilize artificial intelligence applications to boost efficiency, handle client correspondence, and optimize daily workflows.
Requirements
- Possess at least four years of total professional experience.
- Accumulate a minimum of three years of background in client implementation, technical onboarding, or account management.
- Demonstrate proficiency in managing a high-volume active portfolio across competing priorities.
- Bring deep knowledge in finance, operations, or SaaS domains.
- Show proficiency using Salesforce along with case management and collaboration software.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication abilities across phone, video, and email channels.
- Maintain a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection when approved for remote work days.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in startup environments or financial services.
- Familiarity with 401(k) plans or retirement plan administration.
- Knowledge of ERISA regulations and payroll systems.
- Hold or actively pursue an RPS or CRPS designation.
