Job Description

Launch Potato is a profitable, bootstrapped discovery and conversion company operating consumer brands such as FinanceBuzz, All About Cookies, and OnlyInYourState. The organization reaches millions of users monthly across finance, travel, and entertainment, maintaining a South Florida headquarters alongside a remote team spanning 18 countries.

The company is seeking a Head of People to take full ownership of the human resources function, inheriting a functioning performance management framework originally built by the SVP of Talent. This role requires leading performance management, total rewards, and compliance while driving operational leverage through technology and automation. It is a player-coach position that directly manages an HR Business Partner and a Total Rewards and People Analytics lead.

This opportunity is designed for an experienced people leader who has previously managed entire performance cycles and compensation structures at organizations with 150 or more employees. The ideal candidate embraces a fast-paced environment where impact is measured by results rather than activity. This seat is not suitable for individuals seeking their first director-level role, those who rely primarily on policy and risk mitigation, or candidates looking for a recruitment-focused position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mid-year and annual performance management cycles end-to-end, including design, timelines, and execution.
  • Oversee total rewards, band design, benchmarking methodologies, and benefits renewals.
  • Handle HR compliance items such as multi-state registration, I-9 verification, handbooks, worker classifications, and job postings.
  • Enable managers for performance conversations and calibration sessions through playbooks and self-service resources.
  • Build and implement automated tooling to streamline internal processes without reducing operational substance.
  • Directly supervise an HR Business Partner and a Total Rewards and People Analytics lead.

Requirements

  • Prior end-to-end ownership of a full performance cycle, from design through to retrospective, at a company with 150 or more employees.
  • Direct experience owning compensation and benefits, including salary band design and benchmarking methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing ongoing HR compliance as standing scope rather than temporary projects.
  • Experience building a people system or process that remained adopted and recognizable across multiple cycles.
  • Proven background in scaling a company to a materially larger size in headcount or revenue.
  • Track record of coaching and mentoring team members to achieve extraordinary outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Strong opinions on performance management methodologies backed by specific examples of implemented changes.
  • Ability to distinguish between process issues and manager-capability issues to apply the correct fix.
  • Willingness to voice difficult perspectives during calibration sessions.
