Job Description
Launch Potato, a profitable and bootstrapped discovery and conversion company behind brands like FinanceBuzz, All About Cookies, and OnlyInYourState, is hiring a remote Director of HR. In this full-time role, the successful candidate will inherit an established performance management framework from the SVP of Talent and lead total rewards, compensation, compliance, manager enablement, and tooling.
This is a player-coach position that suits a professional who values direct ownership over day-to-day support. The organization runs a remote-first team of approximately 200 people across 18 countries with a tech-first, AI-forward approach. You will manage two direct reports, an HR Business Partner and a Total Rewards and People Analytics lead, while presenting calibration and leveling decisions directly to the executive team and defending compensation numbers before the CFO.
The role requires prior director-level experience owning end-to-end performance cycles, total rewards, and compliance at a company with 150 or more employees. Ideal candidates excel at building adoption for automated processes, driving scale past previous headcount plateaus, and empowering a team to achieve high performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end execution, timelines, and communications for mid-year and annual performance cycles
- Oversee total rewards, including salary band design, benchmarking methodologies, benefits renewals, and annual compensation cycles
- Handle standing compliance scope such as multi-state registrations, I-9 documentation, handbooks, classifications, job postings, and clearing the existing backlog
- Equip front-line managers for performance discussions, calibration sessions, and self-service resources
- Build and improve technical tools and automation to reduce cycle times without sacrificing substance
- Directly supervise and establish decision rights for an HR Business Partner and a Total Rewards and People Analytics lead
Requirements
- Prior experience owning an end-to-end performance cycle multiple times at a company with 150 or more employees
- Demonstrated experience owning compensation and benefits, including band design, benchmarking, and annual compensation cycles
- Hands-on background managing ongoing HR compliance items such as multi-state registration, I-9 processing, classification, handbooks, and clearing backlogs
- Proven track record of building a people system and adoption-driven tooling that outlasted your tenure
- Experience helping scale a company of this size to materially larger headcount or revenue levels more than once
- Demonstrated history of coaching, mentoring, and empowering team members to achieve extraordinary results
Qualifications
- Specific viewpoints and examples regarding what standard performance management systems get wrong and how to fix them
- Ability to distinguish and address process failures versus manager-capability limitations
- Willingness to address difficult topics during calibration discussions
