Job Description

This role suits engineers interested in runtime internals, performance optimization, and distributed systems. You will collaborate closely with senior staff and partner teams to implement scoped improvements, troubleshoot performance issues, and utilize AI-assisted development tools for tasks such as debugging and code comprehension. Responsibilities

Build, test, debug, and maintain query operators, expression evaluation, execution scheduling, and resource management components
Write clear, maintainable Java code accompanied by unit and integration tests
Diagnose query correctness, reliability, and performance issues using logs, query profiles, telemetry, benchmarks, and production data
Collaborate with senior engineers and partner teams to break down work and deliver incremental improvements
Utilize AI-assisted development tools for code comprehension, testing, debugging, and documentation
Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback sessions

Requirements

Up to two years of professional software development experience, or equivalent background via internships, coursework, or personal projects
Proficiency in Java or another object-oriented programming language, along with a willingness to learn a large Java codebase
Understanding of basic concurrency concepts, algorithms, and data structures
Ability to work through defined technical problems and apply feedback
Commitment to writing tested, maintainable code following established engineering practices
Effective communication skills to surface blockers and report progress

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Exposure to database internals, distributed systems, query processing, or large-scale data processing
Familiarity with performance concepts such as profiling, memory management, concurrency, or vectorized processing
Experience with C++, Apache Arrow, Parquet, Apache Iceberg, Spark, Hadoop, or cloud object stores
Prior contributions to open-source projects
