Zinnia seeks a Senior Product Manager (Technical) to guide API development, client onboarding, and technical implementation in a remote, full-time position. Serving over 100 carriers and millions of policyholders, Zinnia requires a hands-on product professional for a visible, client-facing role that shapes architecture choices and collaborates directly with engineering, sales, and client leadership.
This opportunity is ideal for someone experienced in driving the software development lifecycle for enterprise APIs, managing distributed system architectures, and translating complex technical details for both technical and executive audiences. The position involves defining technical specifications, managing API traffic policies, troubleshooting production issues alongside engineering teams, and establishing repeatable onboarding playbooks to minimize time to deployment.
Responsibilities
- Author testable product requirements, OpenAPI specifications, and acceptance criteria
- Manage client implementation and onboarding from technical kickoff through production release
- Partner with sales and pre-sales teams during discovery, solution design, and client presentations
- Collaborate with engineering and architecture leads on platform scalability, service boundaries, and data models
- Define traffic management rules including rate limiting, throttling, OAuth 2.0, and IP whitelisting
- Investigate production issues with engineering to find root causes and implement fixes
- Coordinate execution across distributed engineering and quality assurance teams
Requirements
- Over 8 years of experience in technical product management, solutions architecture, or technical implementation
- Minimum 4 years of experience working on platform products or APIs
- Background in client-facing enterprise implementations from kickoff to go-live
- Familiarity with REST APIs, OpenAPI, OAuth 2.0, API gateways, and traffic management
- Experience with distributed system software architecture and data modeling
- Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases alongside SQL writing skills
- Experience with event-driven architectures including webhooks and Kafka
- Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
Qualifications
- Background in financial services, annuities, or life insurance
- Familiarity with ACORD insurance data standards
- Experience with developer portals and API gateways like Apigee, Kong, or AWS API Gateway
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Datadog
- Experience with schema registries, change data capture, Avro, or JSON Schema
- Familiarity with AWS-based architectures
- Prior hands-on software engineering or architecture experience
