Job Description
Semaphore seeks a remote Senior Product Engineer on a contract basis to help build continuous integration and delivery products for engineering teams. The company is evolving its developer infrastructure platform to support software built alongside AI coding agents. In this individual contributor role, you will take ambiguous problems and drive them from early concepts to functional production features. You will bridge product and engineering tasks by engaging with users, designing solutions, writing code, and refining functionality based on actual usage. This position suits an independent professional with strong technical judgment who thrives in an asynchronous environment.
You will operate across backend services, APIs, infrastructure components, and targeted frontend interfaces while utilizing proven company systems. Semaphore incorporates AI coding agents into daily engineering routines, expecting you to leverage them while retaining complete accountability for security, reliability, and code quality. Success in the first three months involves owning a significant product challenge, delivering a functional capability to production, and building trust with small, direct teams.

- Develop backend services, application programming interfaces, infrastructure elements, and focused user interfaces
- Maintain accountability for production stability, observability, supportability, and adherence to security standards
- Communicate milestones, decisions, and potential obstacles transparently
Requirements
- Demonstrated history of independently deploying significant software capabilities
- Robust product evaluation skills to limit unnecessary scope and judge readiness for release
- Solid backend and systems foundation covering APIs, asynchronous tasks, service boundaries, and state management
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, virtual machines, networking, storage, authentication, and containerization
- Proficiency with modern AI-assisted development workflows and verification methods
- Advanced written and spoken English proficiency combined with asynchronous remote work experience
Qualifications
- Background in constructing developer utilities, continuous integration systems, or cloud infrastructure platforms
- Practical background in distributed systems and event-driven design patterns
- Experience modifying established codebases while simultaneously introducing new architectures
- Experience operating in lean settings where senior staff engage directly in customer discovery
