Coinbase is hiring a full-time Senior IT Automation Engineer to join the IT Tooling team within IT Support & Services on a remote basis. Coinbase focuses on increasing economic freedom and operates with a remote-first model that includes mandatory quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges. In this position, the professional will direct the technical architecture behind operational automations, creating self-service workflows, integrations, and bots utilized by staff for tasks such as onboarding, offboarding, ticket triage, and access reviews.

This role suits an experienced engineer capable of working autonomously in ambiguous situations, setting platform standards across tools like n8n, Airflow, Temporal, Jira, and Okta. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Corporate Engineering, Security, and IAM groups, alongside regional IT personnel in AMER, EMEA, and APAC. Responsibilities include serving as the technical DRI for complex automation projects, establishing code review guidelines, developing shared frameworks, and mentoring team members.

Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of background in systems engineering, IT engineering, or automation, along with expertise in Git-based development workflows and platforms such as n8n, Airflow, Temporal, Jira Automation, or Workato. Total compensation includes equity, bonus eligibility, medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits, with an annual base salary range spanning from $113,815 to $133,900 USD depending on location.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical architecture and integration patterns for IT Tooling automations across n8n, Airflow, Temporal, and Jira
  • Lead complex automation initiatives end-to-end as the technical DRI from discovery through production delivery
  • Collaborate with Security, Corporate Engineering, and IAM divisions to clear technical obstacles
  • Design shared frameworks, reusable components, and documentation to eliminate single points of failure
  • Implement code review practices and engineering benchmarks to enhance platform quality
  • Partner with regional IT teams across AMER, EMEA, and APAC to deploy scalable automation
  • Apply generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency and quality

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT engineering, systems engineering, or automation
  • Demonstrated ownership of platform-level systems and architecture decisions
  • Deep expertise building automations with n8n, Airflow, Temporal, Jira Automation, or Workato
  • Strong proficiency in Git-based development workflows including branching, code reviews, and CI/CD
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace administration, Okta, and Slack API for secure automation design
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments and translate loose problems into technical specs
