Protective Life is seeking a Senior Director, Underwriting & Portfolio Management to lead risk assessment, portfolio performance, and underwriting strategy across its Asset Protection Division. Operating remotely on a full-time basis, this strategic leadership role involves directing governance frameworks, guiding financial and risk evaluations, and collaborating cross-functional with Actuarial, Product, Finance, Sales, and Operations teams. Responsibilities
- Manage enterprise portfolio risk and performance across multiple geographies, distribution channels, and products
- Direct the execution and governance of underwriting strategies to align pricing, eligibility, and exception frameworks
- Collaborate with Product and Actuarial leadership to shape product strategy, design, and optimization
- Oversee the development and application of predictive models, forecasts, and simulations to inform business decisions
- Build scalable processes, operational tools, and governance structures to drive organizational efficiency
- Lead, mentor, and develop underwriting team members while delivering insights to executive leadership
Requirements
- Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in insurance disciplines, portfolio management, underwriting, product management, risk management, or actuarial fields
- At least four years of relevant leadership experience
- Demonstrated background in managing portfolio performance and profitability across various programs, markets, or products
- Direct people management experience
- Proven history of partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to execute business strategies
- Experience using analytics and performance metrics for strategic decision-making
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Mathematics, or a related field
- Advanced degree such as an MBA or MS
- Eight or more years of progressive experience in underwriting, portfolio management, product management, risk management, actuarial science, or related insurance areas
- Background in automotive F&I, vehicle protection products, extended service contracts, warranty administration, specialty insurance, or adjacent P&C markets
- Experience supporting pricing strategy, product development, predictive analytics, or reserving initiatives
- Experience leading technology modernization, governance, or enterprise-wide underwriting transformation efforts
- Relevant industry certifications in insurance operations, risk management, or underwriting
