This role suits data science professionals interested in shaping a high-visibility 0-to-1 product area. The person in this position will work alongside product management, engineering, and design teams to drive user engagement, activation, and reactivation. Instacart functions under a Flex First working model, allowing personnel to operate from home, an office, or another location of their choosing, complemented by scheduled in-person gatherings.
Responsibilities
- Manage the data science component of the Meals project by overseeing the post-MVP expansion of systems and infrastructure
- Establish and oversee metric tracking frameworks to evaluate the influence of Meals on activation, engagement, and reactivation
- Formulate and execute testing strategies, covering hypothesis creation, evaluation, and final recommendations to steer product choices
- Collaborate with designers, software engineers, and product managers to harmonize strategy and present data insights
- Participate in a foundational 0-to-1 project during a pivotal growth phase to help establish large-scale success metrics
Requirements
- Possess at least 4 years of professional experience in data science or a related discipline
- Demonstrate background in consumer-oriented product data science alongside data engineers, engineering leads, and product managers
- Bring a strong foundation in product analysis, data analysis, statistical modeling, causal inference, and A/B testing
- Show experience with defining key performance indicators and optimizing product funnels for market fit
- Exhibit strong communication abilities to explain technical findings to engineering and business stakeholders
Qualifications
- Hold a bachelor degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience connecting offline evaluation measurements like NDCG, precision, recall, or human evaluation with online tests and business results
- Background utilizing causal inference methods beyond standard A/B testing, such as holdouts, difference-in-differences, or quasi-experiments
- Demonstrated success in upgrading logging systems, instrumentation, and metric definitions within complex data setups
- Experience bringing new features to unfamiliar markets or introducing 0-to-1 initiatives
