The Economic Security Project is hiring a Long Term Care (LTC) Fellow to establish a new initiative connecting long-term care to the organization's broader affordability framework. This role suits an independent professional with a background in policy research who wants to shape a growing advocacy platform. Operating under the direction of the Director of Cash Initiatives, Shafeka Hashash, the fellow will map the policy landscape, draft a primary policy paper with actionable recommendations, and help integrate long-term care topics into ongoing health reform discussions. The position involves forming relationships with coalition partners, contributing to a major health reform convening, and producing an additional campaign-focused research product during the second year.
This is a contract position designated as a half-time commitment requiring approximately 20 hours per week over a duration of two years. Responsibilities
- Research and write a flagship policy paper connecting long-term care to the organization affordability framework with actionable recommendations
- Support health care platform development by creating policy memos, briefs, and talking points
- Represent the organization in coalition spaces such as the Affordability Campaigns Collaborative and build external partnerships
- Amplify long-term care topics in public discussions through op-eds, social media, and reporter interviews
- Plan and execute a major policy convening bringing together experts, advocates, and policymakers in the second year
- Author a second campaign-facing research product or policy brief during the second year of the term
Requirements
- Possess three to ten years of experience in policy research, analysis, or advocacy focusing on areas such as health care, long-term care, aging policy, or economic security
- Demonstrate strong analytical and writing skills to translate research into clear material for policy and public audiences
- Maintain comfort engaging directly with coalition groups, advocacy organizations, and policymakers
- Work independently with minimal day-to-day oversight to manage a multi-year research project on a part-time schedule
- Demonstrate familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or long-term care policy
Qualifications
- Hold a graduate degree or possess equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant field such as economics, law, sociology, or public policy
