Responsibilities

  • Operate under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager
  • Conduct complex legal research for trial staff
  • Assist in preparing draft legal documents including briefs, motions, and memoranda of law
  • Review and research Release of Information requests
  • Evaluate new cases and examine applicable laws
  • Revise previously submitted final decisions and research or draft legal opinions on recent cases
  • Edit and review cases for issuance
  • Draft responses to citizen letters
  • Examine AMICUS briefs
  • Brief attorneys on legal issues, theories, and draft statements of fact
  • Support attorneys across all phases of litigation
  • Perform cite checking utilizing Bluebook standards along with online platforms like Lexis and Westlaw

Requirements

  • Possess a Juris Doctor degree, be currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school having finished at least one year of study, or hold an equivalent level of education, training, or experience
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of state and federal court systems, along with legal research procedures and resources
  • Show thorough familiarity with Westlaw and Lexis legal research tools
  • Bring extensive experience with cite checking and the Bluebook
  • Possess hands-on familiarity with word processing applications, spreadsheets, databases including document review and file management systems, and imaging
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently produce top-quality work under extreme pressure

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in litigation support or government environments
  • Familiarity with Relativity, which should be referenced in the resume
  • Experience with published legal writings
  • Participation in Law Review
  • Possession of a current or active security clearance
