Khan Academy is seeking an Interim Manager of Individual Giving to join its Philanthropy team on a 5-month contract spanning from October through February. Khan Academy operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering free, world-class education globally, focusing particularly on supplemental learning tools for Pre-K through early college academic subjects. In this role, the contractor will manage behind-the-scenes portfolio operations, handle major gift solicitations, and produce donor proposals and reports. Additionally, the individual will lead a dedicated research project to pinpoint prospective mid-level and major-gift donors resulting from artificial intelligence sector liquidity events. This temporary position suits an experienced major gifts professional capable of ramping up quickly, communicating complex narratives, and managing multiple concurrent work streams up to forty hours per week.

The person in this position will report to the Director of Philanthropy for strategic direction and will collaborate closely with the Chief of External Relations. Key responsibilities are divided among donor strategy and portfolio management, philanthropic writing and reporting, and prospect research aimed at pipeline expansion. Qualified candidates must possess extensive background in fundraising, excellent writing abilities, and experience preparing executive leadership for donor engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage behind-the-scenes major individual giving portfolios to drive relationship strategy and secure financial gifts
  • Prepare executive leadership and C-suite members for donor meetings through briefings, pre-read decks, and suggested strategies
  • Track and administer end-of-year donor outreach conducted by the Chief of External Relations
  • Coordinate donor email correspondence by triaging messages and drafting replies for review
  • Update and maintain accurate donor activity records within Salesforce
  • Draft and adapt concept notes, proposals, and impact reports for individual giving opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather and analyze performance metrics for donor reports
  • Conduct prospect research utilizing public information and wealth screening tools to find potential donors from artificial intelligence sector liquidity events
  • Deliver prioritized prospect lists with supporting rationale to feed the organization pipeline strategy

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience in philanthropy, major gifts fundraising, and individual giving responsibility
  • Proven background in managing behind-the-scenes fundraising operations and moves management systems
  • Exceptional written communication skills for creating donor communications, proposals, and reports
  • Demonstrated history of preparing and briefing executive leaders and board members for high-level donor engagements
  • Experience utilizing wealth screening tools and public information to locate major-gift prospects
  • Ability to commit to a blended cap of 40 hours per week
