Job Description
Anthropic seeks an Applied AI Engineer for its Beneficial Deployments Life Sciences team in London. The organization focuses on developing reliable, interpretable, and steerable artificial intelligence systems that benefit society. Within this group, the Beneficial Deployments unit partners with mission-driven organizations, foundations, and nonprofits to apply Claude in areas such as global health, education, economic mobility, and life sciences. The position centers on supporting academic medical centers, research institutes, and public-sector funders as they leverage Claude to address rare and neglected diseases.
The role involves two primary focus areas. First, professionals help design, review, and prioritize clinical trials to overcome hurdles in protocol quality, operational risk, and site start-up for small patient populations. Second, the work involves drug repurposing, which means identifying new applications for existing off-patent or generic medicines to speed up treatments for patients. Practitioners embed directly into partner teams, collaborating alongside scientists, clinicians, and engineers to build solutions, create reusable infrastructure, and relay field learnings back to internal engineering and research units.
This opportunity suits professionals with technical engineering capabilities who possess a background in biomedical data or clinical trials. Candidates should be comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, communicating effectively with external partners, and transitioning prototypes into functional production code.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with partner trial teams to draft, review, and prioritize clinical trials using Claude
- Analyze statistical plans and protocols while identifying operational and enrollment risks
- Construct and validate tooling that discovers new uses for approved and off-patent medicines utilizing omics, literature, and patient data
- Assemble evidence to help partners determine subsequent steps in drug repurposing
- Develop reusable infrastructure including biomedical data model context protocol servers, agent skills, and benchmarks
- Channel field insights back to internal product, engineering, and research groups
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in either clinical trial design, execution, and analysis or the discovery of new uses for existing medications
- Familiarity with biomedical data sources such as literature, omics, and real-world patient registries, health records, or claims
- Software engineering competency to transition LLM-powered tools from prototypes to production and write evaluation metrics
- Background working directly with external clients or partners in a technical capacity
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities for documentation and clinical audiences
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity with a resourceful, multi-faceted approach
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field
- Experience in both clinical trials and drug repurposing
- Prior contribution to a regulatory submission for a clinical trial
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive compensation with an annual salary range between £225,000 and £255,000 GBP
- Optional equity donation matching
- Generous vacation policy
