As the Field Operations Lead for Sweden, you will manage comprehensive field activities across one to three projects annually in Sweden and other European or Nordic jurisdictions. You will oversee the complete lifecycle of assigned projects—ranging from drilling operations and electromagnetic surveys to reconnaissance and site rehabilitation—while ensuring safe practices that protect personnel, contractors, and local communities. Reporting to the Field Operations Director North America & Europe, you will direct procurement processes, monitor daily field status, handle local stakeholder relations, and collaborate closely with geologists and data scientists.
This full-time remote position is suited for an experienced operations professional with extensive background in mineral exploration, mining, or related heavy industries. The role requires regular travel to project sites, including remote locations such as Norrbotten, and demands fluency in both Swedish and English. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in either Sweden or Finland.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute complex exploration projects and development programs in Sweden, including drilling campaigns, reconnaissance, and electromagnetic surveys
- Manage 1 to 3 concurrent projects, taking full accountability for end-to-end execution from mobilization to site closure and remediation
- Lead procurement strategies including contractor selection, bid evaluation, contract administration, and performance reviews
- Develop detailed risk assessments, hazard identifications, and mitigation plans tailored to Nordic winter construction conditions
- Maintain daily contact with on-site personnel and contractors while coordinating closely with project geologists and data scientists
- Ensure complete regulatory compliance with Swedish mining and environmental legislation, EU rules, joint venture requirements, and local permitting processes
- Represent KoBold Metals in interactions with local Swedish stakeholders, landowners, communities, municipal authorities, and environmental bodies
- Mentor Field Operations Supervisors to maintain high industry standards and adapt to dynamic, machine-learning-driven field programs
Requirements
- At least 12 years of experience conducting field operations in mineral exploration, mining, oil and gas, or related industries
- Advanced knowledge of construction methodologies including frozen-ground and winter construction relevant to Nordic environments
- Advanced understanding of helicopter-supported exploration and emergency response protocols
- Strong background in procurement processes, contract administration, and rehabilitation planning
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety standards including root cause analysis and incident management
- Ability to work in remote, isolated locations for extended periods, including Swedish Norrbotten and other Nordic regions
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both Swedish and English
- Valid First Aid Certification, with Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid preferred
- Legal authorization to work in Sweden or Finland
Qualifications
- Recognition as a subject matter expert in field operations across at least two operation types such as drilling, civil works, or electromagnetic surveys
- Material understanding of data science products including catchment analyses
- Prior experience navigating Swedish or Nordic regulatory frameworks governing exploration operations
- Background working on projects featuring interdisciplinary teams of geologists and data scientists
- Familiarity with remote project management across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience managing cold-weather logistics involving aviation, camps, chartered flights, and drilling
- Proficiency in Finnish or other Nordic languages
