LaunchDarkly is seeking an Engineering Manager to guide its Cloud Engineering group. In this frontline leadership position, the incoming manager will oversee foundational infrastructure operations, steer a recently rebuilt and experienced team, and place a strong emphasis on reliability and incident management.

This role is well-suited for a leader who values operational health, manages calmly through crises, and utilizes automation to create efficient workflows. During the first year, the selected professional will direct a major infrastructure insourcing initiative, managing planning and execution to generate cost savings that support future growth. Responsibilities blend people management, strategic technical direction, and hands-on operational oversight across cloud infrastructure, networking, and compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a senior Cloud Engineering group by providing coaching, performance management, and career development support.
  • Oversee the operational integrity of cloud infrastructure, encompassing incident management, service-level objectives, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Direct a multi-quarter infrastructure insourcing project through all phases from planning to final completion.
  • Provide technical guidance concerning AWS, networking, multi-region Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, GitOps, and datastore management.
  • Develop automation tools and paved paths to enable product engineering teams to utilize infrastructure safely and independently.
  • Collaborate with internal platform and product groups to align on shared infrastructure priorities and cross-team dependencies.
  • Communicate roadmaps, risks, and resource requirements clearly to engineering leadership and stakeholders.
  • Participate in hiring initiatives and organizational planning.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience managing an infrastructure, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering team at a product company, including oversight of an on-call rotation.
  • Demonstrated accountability for incident response, on-call health, and service-level objective frameworks for production systems.
  • Proven experience directing at least one multi-quarter infrastructure migration or insourcing initiative to completion.
  • Technical familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
  • Experience managing an established team through a leadership transition while retaining engagement and performance.
  • Demonstrated perspective on team practices and norms regarding AI-assisted engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Experience with vendor negotiations or cloud cost management.
  • Experience supporting FedRAMP or compliance-focused infrastructure and operations.
  • Experience operating large-scale datastores or OLAP systems.
