Job Description

Smartsheet is a company that has spent over 20 years empowering teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions, and is now uniting human teams with AI agents to automate manual tasks and uncover insights. The Corporate Systems Engineering division builds and operates software platforms, integrations, and automations powering core business functions across Finance, Sales/GTM, and People & Culture. Within this division, Financial Systems Engineering maintains the technology ecosystem for financial operations and monetization capabilities.

As the Director, Finance Systems & ERP, you will act as a strategic and highly visible technology leader who heads the engineering organization responsible for the financial technology ecosystem. You will establish the long-term technical strategy, architecture, engineering maturity, and delivery of platforms supporting core financial operations, procurement, planning, payments, billing, revenue processes, and emerging monetization models. This leadership role involves guiding major transformation initiatives such as ERP modernization, billing transformation, and the shift toward usage-based and consumption-based monetization.

This position suits an experienced engineering leader who can challenge legacy architectures, collaborate with executive stakeholders across Finance, Product Engineering, Sales/GTM, and Data, and govern implementation partners. You will report to the Senior Director of Corporate Systems, working to ensure the stability, scalability, security, and auditability of the entire financial application stack while establishing modern engineering practices across enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy and long-term architecture for the enterprise financial systems ecosystem.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Financial Systems Engineering organization.
  • Serve as the senior technology leader for NetSuite and enterprise resource planning platforms.
  • Provide technology leadership for major financial transformation programs including ERP reimplementation and modernization.
  • Partner with product managers to translate business priorities into technical roadmaps and engineering plans.
  • Shape the technology architecture required to support subscription, multi-year, usage-based, consumption-based, and AI-related pricing and billing models.
  • Establish clear architectural boundaries and systems of record across CRM, product, billing, ERP, payments, tax, planning, and downstream data platforms.
  • Define the strategy for finance systems data, governance, quality, lineage, and reconciliation.
  • Drive an artificial intelligence strategy for engineering productivity, financial operations, controls, and testing.
  • Oversee modernization, automated testing, integration patterns, and platform health across the financial technology portfolio.

Requirements

  • Have at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience across financial systems, enterprise application engineering, ERP, software engineering, or systems architecture.
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of experience leading technical teams, including managing managers, senior engineers, architects, or other technical leaders.
  • Possess deep experience with NetSuite or comparable enterprise ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrate past success leading a major ERP implementation, reimplementation, or transformation program from architecture through stabilization.
  • Understand financial business processes including record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, billing, payments, financial planning, accounting, and revenue workflows.
  • Have hands-on experience with SaaS billing and monetization architectures, including subscription, usage-based, or consumption-based business models.
  • Show experience designing or evolving enterprise data architecture and integrating operational systems with data lake platforms.
  • Understand financial controls, auditability, security, data integrity, and compliance considerations.
